Veteran running back Marlon Mack layoffs?

On Tuesday, the Texans made a surprising adjustment for the cause: cutting veteran running back Marlon Mack.

Mack played the previous four years for the Colts, and due to a torn Achilles injury in 2020 and Jonathan Taylor’s breakout year, Mack only got 32 rushing attempts over the past two years.

The Texans signed Mack to a one-year contract this March in hopes that he can recapture what he was capable of during 2018-2019: rushing for 1,999 yards and 17 touchdowns. During the preseason, Mack rushed the ball 21 times and rushed for 90 yards.

With Mack cut, 2022 fourth-round pick Dameon Pierce could get more opportunities. pierce had a great camp, rushing for 86 yards and one touchdown in two preseason games.

The Texans also traded 2020 second-round defensive tackle Ross Blacklock and a 2023 seventh-round pick to the Vikings on the same day he was drafted for a 2023 sixth-round pick.
