Texans quarterback Watson to be traded to Browns

On Friday, US time, according to NFL Network reporters, the Texans will trade quarterback Deshaun Watson and a 2024 fifth-round pick to the Browns for 2022, 2023, and 2024 first-round picks. , a third-round pick in 2023, and a fourth-round pick in 2024.

Brown is expected to sign a five-year, $230 million contract with Watson, with all $230 million guaranteed. Watson previously informed the Texans that he was willing to waive the no-trade clause in his contract in order to be traded to Brown. Texans general manager Nick Caserio said in a statement that he believed trading Watson was “the right decision for the club.”

The arrival of Watson will also allow quarterback Baker Mayfield to seek a new home. Mayfield asked Brown to trade himself the day before, but Brown at the time thought he had withdrawn from the Watson competition, so he said he would not agree to his request.

The other three major contenders: the Panthers, Saints and Falcons all need to continue their search for a cornerstone quarterback. The Saints are considering re-signing Jameis Winston.
